Emirates Reroutes Flights After Dubai Drone Attack

Emirates has been forced to reroute multiple flights after Dubai’s airport suspended operations for several hours on Monday following a drone attack. Flights from Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin were among those that had to return to their destinations early on Monday, after a drone strike that set a nearby fuel tank on fire.

Other flights had been diverted to the city’s second passenger and cargo airport, Al Maktoum International. Recovery in air travel across the region is being hampered by the conflict that is now in its third week. Flights were suspended from around 6am local time. Dubai International has gradually resumed flights to select destinations following the temporary suspension of operations.

No injuries were reported from the fire, which authorities said had been brought under control earlier in the day. Iranian drone attacks have been decreasing in frequency in recent days but have hit strategically important targets such as the airports, ports and buildings in Dubai’s financial centre.
