British Airways cuts Gulf flights, adds Asia routes

British Airways will trim its Gulf network when flights resume in July, shifting capacity to faster routes into Asia and Africa. The carrier plans a single daily service to Dubai, down from three, and will cut Doha, Riyadh and Tel Aviv to one flight each. Jeddah is dropped entirely, and Riyadh sees a mid‑May reduction for the summer season overall.

The airline will redeploy larger jets on Indian routes, swapping a Boeing 777 for an Airbus A350 on one Delhi flight, which adds 59 seats. A Hyderabad service will move from a 787 to a 777, creating 68 extra seats. New daily flights to Bengaluru, Nairobi and Mumbai start in June, with three additional weekly Delhi runs for capacity growth.

By curbing Gulf frequencies, BA aims to capture rising demand for point‑to‑point Asian travel as passengers avoid hub connections in the Middle East. The shift comes amid industry‑wide aircraft shortages caused by delayed Boeing and Airbus deliveries, limiting rivals’ ability to re‑allocate capacity. BA’s schedule will remain in force until October 24, when the winter programme begins for its network.
