Boeing reported progress in its commercial airliner business, but overall results were impacted by the ongoing Air Force One refurbishment program. The company posted second-quarter revenues of $24.6bn and free cash flow of $631mn, with commercial jet deliveries increasing. The commercial aerospace division saw its operating margin improve.

However, Boeing's defense division incurred an unexpected loss due to $280mn in new costs on the Air Force One refurbishment. This program, a fixed-price contract negotiated by Donald Trump in 2018 for $3.9bn, is four years behind schedule and has led to billions in extra costs for Boeing.

These additional losses pushed Boeing's net loss for the quarter to $428mn. Despite this, CEO Kelly Ortberg expressed optimism, stating "we continue moving in the right direction." The company anticipates achieving positive free cash flow for the year, a milestone not reached since 2023, and is subject to ongoing regulatory scrutiny following past incidents.
