Turkey Wheat Output Set to Rebound After Drought, Easing Import Needs - Bloomberg

Droughts ravaged Turkey’s wheat crop last year, but officials expect a sharp rebound in 2026. Output could rise 20% to 22 million tons, nearing the 2015 record of 22.6 million tons. The agriculture ministry did not confirm the figures.

Last year’s drought caused an 8.8% contraction in farming, even as the broader economy grew 3.6%. The government plans to support farmers via procurement prices to stabilize production.

Improved rainfall in central Anatolia, a key grain region, has spurred optimism. Higher domestic output may ease import needs, as Turkey ranks among the world’s largest wheat buyers. Agriculture Minister Ibrahim Yumakli stated the crop would recover last losses.

Official estimates due June 3. The government will publish preliminary assessments then, though the ministry remains noncommittal about final numbers.
