Thailand has re‑introduced 30‑day visa‑exempt visits for Indian travellers while tightening visa‑screening to curb abuse of the system. The Immigration Bureau’s crackdown, announced after a November 12 meeting, includes four key measures: enhanced screening for more than two entries, increased surveillance at key border hotspots, stricter assessment of visa‑extension applications for frequent border runs, and amplified action against overstayers, including fines, deportation and black‑listing.

Major-General Cherngron Rimphidi said that about 2,900 foreigners had already been denied entry this year under the new guidelines. The measures come alongside broader 2025 reforms such as digital arrival‑card requirements and revised visa‑exemption periods.

While tourism remains a vital economic pillar, officials stress that maintaining immigration integrity is equally important for national security. Visitors should expect more rigorous checks at airports, land borders and seaports, and repeat entries without clear justification may trigger additional questioning or denial.

Border checkpoints, especially in Mae Sot, will receive heightened attention. The policy demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to balancing the “Land of Smiles” tourism appeal with robust border control.
