China issued its highest storm alert as Typhoon Dolphin approached, prompting Shanghai to cancel over 1,300 flights and evacuate approximately 300,000 people in surrounding regions. The typhoon, with maximum sustained winds of 162 km/h (101 mph), had already brought heavy rains to northern Taiwan, including Taipei, and some Taiwanese airlines canceled flights to China. Authorities warned of severe flooding, landslides, and up to 400 mm of rainfall, particularly in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.

In Zhejiang, 390,000 people were evacuated from Taizhou, while Shanghai evacuated 30,000 from high-risk areas. Both cities suspended water-based activities, and Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong airports canceled about 60% of Sunday’s flights. Forecasters emphasized heightened landslide risks and urged extreme caution as the storm moved closer.
