Pop star Selena Gomez is being accused of fraud by investors who claim she failed to deliver on promises to leverage her global celebrity and social-media following to promote her mental-health startup, which collapsed last year. The startup, Wondermind Global Inc., claimed a valuation of $95 million when it sought money from investors in 2022 to develop products, including a mobile app, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in Delaware federal court. Gomez, one of the founders, served as "chief impact officer" and head of marketing, the suit said.

The lawsuit alleges that Gomez's involvement was a key selling point to attract investment, but she did not fulfill her marketing duties. The investors are seeking damages for fraud and breach of contract. Wondermind Global Inc. is now defunct, having ceased operations last year.

This case highlights the risks of celebrity endorsements in the startup world. The outcome could set a precedent for how celebrity founders are held accountable for their promotional commitments. As of now, Gomez has not publicly responded to the allegations.
