Miami has agreed to sell a site containing a 121-year-old historic cottage to billionaire Ken Griffin for $2.98 million. The cottage, currently housing the Dade Heritage Trust, will be moved to Coconut Grove.

Executive director Christine Rupp confirmed the move but declined to share specifics about the new location. If approved by Miami commissioners and the City’s Historic and Environmental Preservation Board, Griffin will fund the relocation and preservation of the property, which was the former office of Miami’s first resident physician, Dr. James M. Jackson. The Dade Heritage Trust will retain ownership of the cottage and its land.

This planned acquisition completes Griffin’s goal of owning the entire square block across from the planned Citadel headquarters in Brickell. He has already acquired adjacent properties, including the Solaris condo, which he intends to demolish for future development. Griffin is also proceeding with his 54-story office tower for Citadel and Citadel Securities at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive, a project he purchased for $363 million in 2022.
