Crédit Agricole SA has begun scouting for a new UK headquarters, potentially ending its near 40-year tenure at Broadwalk House in London. The French bank seeks approximately 120,000 square feet of space to house its London team, with options viewed in the City, Canary Wharf, and Canada Water, despite having a lease that doesn't expire until 2030.

London faces a severe office space shortage that has pushed rents higher and forced businesses to search for accommodations well in advance. Data from Savills Plc shows just 2.9% of space in the best towers is available, even though 7% of City of London offices sit vacant. Developers remain hesitant to start new projects following Brexit and pandemic disruptions.

Credit Agricole's move reflects broader corporate real estate challenges as premium space becomes increasingly scarce. The bank's decision to explore relocation options early demonstrates how market conditions are forcing companies to adapt their real estate strategies. London's commercial property sector continues to grapple with limited supply amid persistent demand from financial institutions.
