Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto nominated Acting Governor Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate to head Bank Indonesia, advancing a hiring process that has attracted attention from global investors since veteran Perry Warjiyo unexpectedly resigned from the post in late July. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi made the announcement on Monday after submitting Destry’s name to parliament. He didn’t say whether Destry had been nominated to serve out the remainder of Warjiyo’s term or to start a new five-year term.

The nomination aims to calm markets after Warjiyo’s sudden departure. Destry, who has been acting governor since Warjiyo’s resignation, is seen as a steady hand for monetary policy. The parliament will now review her candidacy before a final vote. The move underscores the government’s focus on maintaining stability in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
