Brentford FC has added two high-profile minority investors to its ownership group: Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, and Prakash Melwani, a senior executive at Blackstone Inc. The West London Premier League club announced Monday that Grainge and Melwani will join the board of Best Intentions Analytics Limited, the holding company for Brentford and its Spanish affiliate Merida AD.

Existing investors Gary Lubner and Matthew Vaughn have also increased their stakes in the holding company. Matthew Benham, a former Bank of America employee who founded statistical research firm Smartodds, remains the majority owner after acquiring the club in 2012. The investment comes as Brentford enjoys its most successful season, sitting seventh in the Premier League with ten matches remaining and in contention for a UEFA cup berth for the first time in club history.

The backing from Grainge and Melwani underscores Brentford's growing profile in football circles. The club's data-driven approach, pioneered by Benham, has transformed its fortunes since relocating from Griffin Park to the 17,000-seat GTech Community Stadium in 2020. This season's performance validates the analytics-focused strategy that has become Brentford's trademark.
