Brentford Lead Race for Burnley Winger Jaidon Anthony

Brentford have opened negotiations with Burnley to sign winger Jaidon Anthony on a permanent deal. The 26-year-old is seeking to remain in the Premier League after the Clarets dropped to the Championship last season. Several top-flight clubs are interested, though Brentford appear frontrunners for the Englishman, who scored nine goals and provided four assists across 38 appearances in 2023-24.

Anthony's connection to London and his Arsenal academy background makes the Brentford move attractive. He left Arsenal in 2016 without a senior appearance before establishing himself at Bournemouth through loan spells at Weymouth and Leeds. Burnley signed him permanently last summer after securing promotion, triggering an £8m obligation-to-buy clause from Bournemouth.

Brentford have already invested in their squad, completing the signing of defender Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg for up to £16m including add-ons. They narrowly missed European qualification last season, finishing ninth on goal difference on the final day. Meanwhile, Burnley prepare for Championship football, opening their campaign against West Ham United on 16 August.

This transfer represents a significant step for both clubs. Brentford are strengthening their attacking options for another European push, while Burnley will likely use the funds to rebuild under new management. Anthony's proven Premier League pedigree makes him exactly the profile of player Brentford need.
