QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced the new QSW-M5218 Series L3 Lite managed switches, including the QSW-M5218-6F12T and the PoE-capable QSW-M5218P-6F12T. Aimed at SMBs and applications demanding high-speed network infrastructure—such as AV over IP transmission—the series features twelve 10GbE RJ45 ports and six 25GbE SFP28 uplink ports, with a switching capacity of up to 540 Gbps. By combining L3 Lite routing, MC-LAG high availability, and IEEE 1588v2 PTP precise time synchronization, it helps enterprises overcome core network bandwidth bottlenecks and build a stable, high-performance IT infrastructure with a seamless upgrade path.

As NAS devices, servers, and workstations move to 10GbE, traditional 1G/2.5G ports and a single 10G uplink are increasingly becoming performance bottlenecks. The QSW-M5218 Series uses high-density 10GbE interfaces to connect high-speed NAS, virtualization servers, and multimedia workstations, while its 25GbE SFP28 ports act as a high-bandwidth backbone that aggregates traffic into the enterprise core—delivering up to 2.5 times the per-port uplink bandwidth of 10G. At the endpoints, existing Cat 6a copper cabling can be reused without the need to lay new fiber, streamlining core network upgrades.
