Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than a million copies on its first day, helping Capcom capitalize on momentum from recent successes like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. The company is now focusing on re-activating IPs that haven't had new titles in years. "In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven't had a new title launch recently," the company said in a press release. This marks the first new mainline Onimusha game since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.

Capcom is already revisiting dormant franchises with the Okami sequel and Mega Man: Dual Override. Fans have long requested a new Dino Crisis game since 2003's Dino Crisis 2, and the company recently released a bundle of the first two games and brought them to Steam. Dino Crisis 2 is also set for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog later this year. Dead Rising could be next, following a recent remake of the original game.

Two major franchises are prime candidates for revival: Devil May Cry (41 million copies sold) and Ace Attorney (15 million copies sold). Devil May Cry hasn't seen a new mainline game since 2019's Devil May Cry 5, while Ace Attorney hasn't had a new entry since 2013's Ace Attorney 6. Lost Planet, dormant since 2013's Lost Planet 3, could also be in line for a comeback.
