US diesel advanced to the highest price since hitting a peak in April during the initial phase of the US-Iran war, highlighting the inflationary pressures menacing the global economy as the conflict drags on.

The nationwide average retail price reached $5.688 a gallon on Tuesday, according to the American Automobile Association. That figure is just a fraction below the April high, which was the costliest since mid-2022.

The sustained climb in diesel prices reflects how the war with Iran continues to strain global fuel supply chains. Diesel is critical for transportation, agriculture, and industrial operations, meaning elevated costs tend to feed through into broader consumer prices across the economy.

Analysts warn that as the US-Iran conflict drags on without resolution, further upward pressure on energy markets and overall inflation remains likely, posing ongoing risks to economic stability.
