Former England striker Andy Carroll has revealed he was sexually assaulted by a man in 2021. The incident occurred at his home during his second spell with Newcastle United. Carroll, now a player/co-owner of Dagenham & Redbridge, shared the details in his autobiography 'Owning it'.

He decided to include the story after discussing it with his girlfriend Lou Teasdale. The attacker was jailed for three years and placed on the sex offender register. Carroll testified in court, describing the process as 'humiliating and embarrassing and absolutely horrendous'.

He wrote that the trauma affected every facet of his life and made it difficult to focus on football. Carroll, who won nine England caps, joined Dagenham in July 2025 and has made six appearances this season.
