Ofcom is investigating Pornhub's service provider Aylo to determine if the site breached the Online Safety Act by failing to prevent children from accessing pornography. The UK communications watchdog launched the probe after the government introduced strict requirements last year. In May 2026, Pornhub deployed new age-verification tools relying on Apple signals to determine user age.

However, Ofcom expressed concern the process may not have been sufficiently tested before implementation. Aylo, a Canada-based company, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. If found in breach, Aylo could face fines of up to £18mn or 10 per cent of worldwide revenue.

Pornhub previously wrote to about 300 MPs arguing the law had "failed" to protect children, pushing users toward non-compliant sites. Last year, Aylo reported traffic to Pornhub had fallen 77 per cent since the Online Safety Act introduction. These figures exclude users accessing the site via virtual private networks to avoid UK restrictions.
