Scottie Scheffler capped off another PGA Tour season in style, claiming the FedExCup title at the Tour Championship. The world No 1 overturned a three-shot deficit during an eventful Sunday at East Lake Golf Club. He mixed six birdies with two bogeys to post a four-under 66 and pull clear of the field. Scheffler finished on 16 under, three strokes clear of Viktor Hovland, who led at various points on the final day. The victory secured a $10m first prize and saw Scheffler join Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as the only multiple FedExCup champions. His latest success saw him pass Woods in all-time career money earnings on the PGA Tour, while his 22 Tour titles over the last five seasons is double any other player during that period.

Rory McIlroy recovered from three bogeys in his first five holes to post a one-under 69 and share fourth spot. He was joined on 11 under by Ludvig Aberg, Chris Gotterup, Russell Henley, Jacob Bridgeman, Min Woo Lee, and Alex Fitzpatrick. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood finished a shot behind. Hovland posted a final-round 72 to finish second ahead of Ryan Gerard.

Scheffler made an early statement, firing his tee-shot to tap-in range at the second. Overnight co-leader Ryan Gerard started with a double-bogey and never returned to the top. Scheffler drained a 24-foot birdie at the fourth to pull level with Hovland. The pair found themselves tied when Scheffler missed the fairway and made bogey on the 14th.
