Snap has introduced a new standalone AI assistant called Specs Intelligence, designed to work with its redesigned AR glasses as well as dedicated desktop and mobile apps. Unlike most social media platforms, Snap hasn't heavily focused on AI, but this move signals a shift toward productivity-focused features. Specs Intelligence is described as an "anticipatory AI service" that builds an understanding of users' goals, priorities, relationships, and routines by connecting to external accounts like Google. It can surface timely reminders, organize information into context-based "corners," and even project relevant data directly into the field of view for AR glasses users. The assistant can be activated by voice with "Hey Specs." Snap emphasizes privacy, stating it won't use the service to train AI models or serve ads, and that Snap personnel cannot access personal content. A limited preview is available in the US through the Specs app on iOS, allowing users to connect Google accounts for basic insights. The full early-access version will be invite-only and initially available only on the Mac app, with a waitlist now open.

Specs Intelligence represents Snap's most significant foray into AI beyond Snapchat's existing generative features. The service aims to compete with similar offerings from rivals like Meta while addressing privacy concerns that have arisen with other platforms.
