Stephen Colbert made his first late night appearance since leaving "The Late Show" in May, guesting on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" after winning an Emmy for the final season of his show. Kimmel called the Emmy-winning season "so popular, they had to pull it off of television." Colbert joked, "People still do these shows?" as he sat down for the interview. The two discussed sitting with fellow late night hosts Jon Stewart and John Oliver at the Emmys, where a photographer referred to their group as "the endangered table." Kimmel noted Colbert seemed happier and healthier off air, to which Colbert replied, "Like I don’t drink a cup of poison every day? Exactly." When asked if CBS had congratulated him on his Emmy, Colbert quipped, "I am not familiar with that organization, thank you for asking." Colbert sported a gray beard he had grown since his show ended, which he promised to shave if he won an Emmy.

Kimmel provided clippers for Colbert to shave it on camera. Other highlights included Helen Mirren crashing Jimmy Fallon’s monologue to show off her potty mouth, Colin Kaepernick set to discuss his memoir on "The Daily Show," and Reba McEntire performing "Appalachian Memories" in tribute to Dolly Parton at the Emmys.
