Fixing OBS Microphone Issues on macOS Hackintosh

Users of OBS Studio on macOS, especially those running Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia, or Tahoe, often encounter issues where the microphone permission prompt fails to appear. This problem is particularly prevalent among Hackintosh setups, where quirks in the TCC database or unsigned apps can cause strange launch behaviors.

The issue has led to the need for workarounds. Two effective methods have emerged: a quick Terminal trick and a more polished Automator launcher. The Terminal method involves opening OBS via a specific command, which often forces the permission dialog to appear. Users should quickly add an Audio Input Capture source and select their microphone to trigger the prompt.

For a cleaner experience, an Automator launcher can be created. This method involves crafting a small custom app that launches OBS with the correct icon while still triggering the necessary permission prompt. This approach ensures that the OBS icon remains visible in the Dock, providing a more seamless user experience.

To address this issue, users can follow a simple action plan: try the normal launch, use the Terminal command, create an Automator launcher, or reset TCC permissions. Hackintosh users are advised to ensure they are using the correct OBS build for their setup and to restart OBS after permissions are granted to verify functionality.
