Developer Builds Fast Polish Statistics Platform

A developer frustrated with the slow and confusing Polish government statistics site, GUS, decided to build a faster, more user-friendly platform. The new site, available at poland.gg, allows users to quickly access demographic data for any region in Poland, from the national level down to individual gminas (municipalities). With over 2,478 gminas, each now has a dedicated page with population, housing, geography, and demographic data, all sourced directly from GUS but presented in an intuitive format.

The developer chose Elixir for its concurrency model, ensuring instant page loads. The platform supports both English and Polish, with properly localized content. This initiative addresses the need for government data to be accessible to everyone, not just researchers. Currently, the site is free to use, and the developer invites feedback for further improvements.

Looking ahead, the developer plans to expand the platform with more datasets, including economy, education, transport, and environment. Additionally, API access is in the works, allowing developers to pull data programmatically. Long-term goals include property predictions based on regional trends, making the platform an essential tool for data-driven decision-making in Poland.

This development underscores the potential of developer-driven solutions to enhance government data accessibility. By leveraging modern technology, the platform demonstrates how user experience can be significantly improved without altering the underlying data sources. It serves as a model for how governments and developers can collaborate to create more efficient and accessible data platforms.
