CSS corner-shape Property for Advanced Corners

A new CSS property called corner-shape is entering the browser landscape, letting developers style corners beyond simple rounding. Currently supported only in Chrome 139+, it works with border-radius to define the corner's shape—like bevels, notches, or scoops—eliminating the need for image hacks or extra SVG markup to achieve complex UI designs.

This moves corner styling from a visual trick to a native, animatable property. Designers can mix shapes per corner, creating effects like sale tags or arrow breadcrumbs directly in CSS. The property accepts keywords like squircle for modern app icon shapes or superellipse() for fine-tuned curves, offering consistent borders and shadows.

While not production-ready due to limited browser support, it's a powerful tool for prototypes and experiments. Developers can now animate corner morphs, like transitioning from a square to a notch. This signals a broader push for more expressive, native CSS capabilities, reducing reliance on external assets for UI flair.
