Build a Last.fm Roast Bot for $1.75/Year

A developer built an AI bot named lastfm-roaster on Poe to mercilessly critique their own Last.fm music history. The goal wasn't just to get roasted, but to automate the daily delivery of these insults directly to their inbox for easy sharing with friends.

The solution involved creating a Python script that uses the Poe API (compatible with the OpenAI client) to fetch the roast. It then employs Regex to inject a rotating neon color palette into the HTML email, transforming plain text into a visually striking, dark-mode card that highlights the most embarrassing bands.

This entire pipeline runs for free on GitHub Actions, scheduled daily. The operational cost is minimal: using the Gemini 2.5 Flash model via Poe costs about $0.0048 per roast, totaling just $1.75 for the entire year. It turns a private shame into a shareable, automated daily ritual.
