Wales rugby stalwart Kerin Lake has announced her retirement at 35, bringing an end to a remarkable career spanning over a decade in the international game. The trailblazing midfielder made her Test debut against Scotland in 2011 Women's Six Nations before balancing motherhood with rugby during the sport's amateur era. Lake became a mainstay in the Wales midfield alongside Hannah Dallavalle.

Lake's club journey saw her progress from Neath Athletic to Ospreys, then Gloucester-Hartpury where she won two Premiership Women's Rugby titles. She returned home in 2024 to join Celtic Challenge side Gwalia Lightning, completing a career that showcased her dedication to both family and professional rugby after taking a break following the birth of her son.

The 54-cap Wales international's career was repeatedly disrupted by injury, with her final Test appearance coming against Canada at last year's Rugby World Cup. A shoulder injury suffered in that tournament proved the final blow, leading Lake to announce her retirement on social media with characteristic modesty, expressing gratitude for the game that "shaped who I am."
