Wales' Long History Touring Argentina

Wales has landed in Argentina, continuing a near 60-year tradition of touring the South American nation. This visit is unique, featuring only one Nations Championship game in San Juan before the squad heads to South Africa. Wales has never before made the 7,000-mile journey for a single match.

Their history against the Pumas is storied, marked by dramatic encounters. The first tour in 1968 saw Argentina shock Wales with a series win. Later, in 1999, Graham Henry's side secured Wales' first-ever 2-0 Test series victory in Argentina, a tour also remembered for a notorious on-field brawl involving Mauricio Reggiardo and Dafydd James.

More recently, in 2018, Warren Gatland's Wales achieved another 2-0 series triumph in Argentina, with Rhys Patchell scoring 20 points in the deciding Test. This success propelled Wales to third in the world rankings and set the stage for their subsequent 14-match winning streak. Despite the historical significance, this tour is a brief stopover en route to facing South Africa, presenting a different challenge than previous extended campaigns.
