Lance Stroll spun out with a rear suspension failure on the new Aston Martin during the first practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc set the pace, recording the fastest lap.

Aston Martin brought a virtually new car for its first major upgrade of the season. The left rear suspension broke as Stroll rounded Turn Three with about 20 minutes left. Fernando Alonso was sent out after the restart and posted a 13th‑fastest time, a long way from the team's desired position but a significant step forward from their recent back‑of‑the‑field performance.

Leclerc was 0.484 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton third, followed by Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar. Alonso’s time was 2.475 seconds slower than Leclerc’s. Aston Martin had been about four seconds off the pace in recent races. Leclerc's session ended early when his car suffered a failure and he ground to a halt in the pit lane before reaching the Ferrari garage.

George Russell was fifth, ahead of Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto. Mercedes reserve Frederik Vesti, driving the car of championship leader Kimi Antonelli, was seventh. Audi's Nico Hulkenberg and Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson completed the top 10.
