Paralympic medallist Daphne Schrager insists she has "never cheated" after being given a two‑year ban following an "unintentional" positive test for the banned substance Ligandrol. Schrager, who won a silver medal at Paris 2024 and two golds at the Para‑cycling Road World Cup in May 2025, tested positive for Ligandrol, which selectively builds muscle and bone mass. The substance was detected at a trace level of 0.0006 ng in an out‑of‑competition test last year.

The National Anti‑Doping Panel (NADP) backdated the ban to start when she was initially suspended on June 2 2025; it will end on June 1 2027, meaning Schrager could still compete at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. However, she has been left out of the England squad for the Commonwealth Games, currently taking place in Glasgow. Schrager argued that she may have been exposed to environmental contamination at a gym where she received a massage or at a shared home address.

A NADP tribunal found that while Schrager had not intentionally used a banned substance, she had not proved that the result was inadvertent environmental contamination. In a lengthy Instagram statement she said she had paid for hair and nail analysis to support her innocence, but the exact source could not be proven. She described the impact on her mental health as "significant and at times overwhelming" but vowed to return to action in 2027.
