Sir Chris Hoy believes the responsibility to encourage men to get tested for prostate cancer should not fall solely on high-profile individuals like himself or Jeremy Clarkson. Diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer at 47, Hoy turned 50 in March and continues to use his platform to raise awareness. He argues for a more systematic and proactive approach to inform men about their personal risk, noting that 10,000 men in the UK each year discover prostate cancer too late.

While acknowledging the PSA test is imperfect, he stresses that knowing one's situation is vital and that treatment decisions should be left to doctors. Hoy founded the 'Tour De 4' charity cycle to celebrate life, support others in similar situations, and change perceptions of living with stage 4 cancer. He expressed hope that advocacy efforts, like swimmer Archie Goodburn's plea for brain cancer funding, will lead to practical change rather than just political talk.

The Tour De 4 event is scheduled for Sunday 6 September, starting and finishing at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow.
