Silverstone will stage a six-hour World Endurance Championship race next year, adding the historic circuit to the 2027 calendar as the season's third round from April 23-25. The 5.891km track joins eight other venues including Le Mans, Spa, and COTA, bringing world championship endurance racing back to British soil after successful events from 2012 to 2019.

The series has surged in popularity since introducing hypercar regulations in 2021, attracting major manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, BMW and Cadillac. These new rules replaced the previous LMP1 class and created more competitive, road-relevant prototypes that have reinvigorated the championship.

WEC CEO Frederic Lequien praised Silverstone's motorsport heritage and driver appeal, noting the circuit's challenging fast corners test both machinery and engineering. British fans, known for their enthusiasm, will welcome the world championship's return after a five-year absence.

Ford and McLaren join the hypercar grid next season, reigniting Ford's historic rivalry with Ferrari. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen could make his Le Mans debut following his GT racing appearances, adding star power to an already compelling championship battle.

This year's Le Mans 24 Hours begins Saturday at 15:00 BST, with around 300,000 spectators expected at the Circuit de la Sarthe, underscoring endurance racing's growing global appeal.
