Four-time world champion Mark Selby took a commanding 7-2 lead over Jak Jones in their World Championship first-round match at the Crucible. The 42-year-old Englishman, who has lost in the first round in each of the past two years, stormed to a 6-0 lead before Jones won the seventh frame. Selby then extended his advantage with a 78 break, though Jones finished the session strongly with a 90 break.

Selby now needs just three more frames to advance to the last 16 and continue a remarkable run for seeded players at this year's tournament. All 12 seeded players who have completed their matches so far have progressed, putting the tournament on the brink of history. If Ronnie O'Sullivan, Si Jiahui, and Neil Robertson also win, it will mark the first time all 16 seeds have reached the second round since the event moved to Sheffield in 1977.

In other results, Chris Wakelin became the 12th seeded player to advance, defeating 20-year-old Liam Pullen 10-6. The 34-year-old Englishman led 5-4 overnight before Pullen leveled at 5-5, but Wakelin won five consecutive frames to seal victory. Despite the competitive nature of the match, Wakelin expressed sympathy for his friend and practice partner Pullen, who had battled through four qualifying rounds to reach the main stage.
