Scottie Scheffler Misses First Cut in Four Years

Scottie Scheffler's remarkable streak of 78 consecutive made cuts on the PGA Tour ended at the Genesis Scottish Open. The world number one shot a two-over-par 72 in the second round, leaving him at even par and outside the projected cut line of two-under. This marks Scheffler's first missed cut in a PGA Tour event since the 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship, a span of 1,428 days.

Scheffler expressed bewilderment at his performance, stating, "It felt like nothing was going right." Despite not feeling he played poorly, the challenging nature of the Renaissance Club proved too much. He will now have an earlier than expected start to his preparation for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The next longest active streak of consecutive cuts made belongs to Matt Fitzpatrick, who is currently second at eight-under par.

Meanwhile, Jordan Smith leads the tournament at nine-under after a first-round 63. Fitzpatrick, chasing his fourth win of the season, is one shot back. Other notable players, including Jon Rahm, are positioned to make the weekend, while Ludvig Aberg is set to miss the cut by one shot.
