Scarlets have signed 21-year-old former New Zealand Under-20s lock Tom Allen from Super Rugby Pacific champions the Hurricanes. The 6ft 6in forward becomes the region's seventh summer recruit, joining a rebuild after a disappointing campaign.

Director of rugby Nigel Davies praised Allen's hunger to improve and willingness to embrace challenge. "He's young, ambitious, positive and comes through one of the best player development systems in world rugby," said Davies. "What really impressed us throughout the recruitment process was his hunger to improve."

Other arrivals include New Zealand back-rower Cullen Grace from Crusaders, Welsh-qualified full-back Isaac Murray-Macgregor from the Canterbury pathway, prop Corey Domachowski from Cardiff and hookers John Mc Kee and George Roberts. Lock Harvey Cuckson joins permanently from Bath after two loan spells.

Scarlets, who finished 14th of 16 in the United Rugby Championship last season, open the new campaign at home against Welsh rivals Cardiff on 26 September.
