Ryan Fox carded an eight-under-par 62 in the third round at Royal Birkdale, matching Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns from Friday to equal the lowest round in men's major history. Fox had a chance at 61 but found a fairway bunker off the 18th tee, leaving a 48-foot putt that finished five feet short before he tapped in for the record-tying score.

The round marks the eighth 62 in major championship history, with half occurring at Birkdale since Branden Grace first achieved it in 2017. Fox holds the clubhouse lead at eight under, tied with Herbert, and said aggressive play has served him well. Playing partner Xander Schauffele, a two-time major 62-shooter himself, praised Fox's risk-taking and noted the pins were "definitely on some slopes."

Fox made five birdies in his first eight holes, with only a bogey at the 13th interrupting his charge. He responded with three birdies in four holes to threaten 61 before the 18th bunker. "I'm going to have a chance to win the Open which is pretty exciting," he said. Meanwhile, Korea's Haeran Ryu shot an 11-under 60 at the Evian Championship last week, the lowest round in any major.
