Russian athletes may compete under their national flag at the LA 2028 Olympic Games, following the International Olympic Committee's provisional lifting of a suspension. The IOC had banned the Russian Olympic Committee in 2023 due to the war in Ukraine, but has now deemed the ban "no longer applicable." Athletes must still meet anti-doping requirements to participate.

No decision has been made regarding the use of Russia's national flag, colors, or anthem. The IOC will also continue to avoid organizing events in Russia and inviting Russian government officials. Russian and Belarusian athletes competed as approved neutrals in the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning five medals collectively. This contrasts sharply with the 71 medals won by the full Russian team at the 2021 Tokyo Games.

Russia has welcomed the decision, with Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev stating the Games must be "free from politics" and that Russia intends to participate in 2028 qualifiers. The IOC reiterated its condemnation of the invasion of Ukraine but believes individual athletes' participation should not be penalized by government actions.
