Two runners at the Boston Marathon sacrificed their own race times to help an exhausted competitor cross the finish line. Aaron Beggs first stopped to assist Ajay Haridasse after he fell near the 26-mile mark and couldn't get up. When Beggs struggled to steady the debilitated runner, another competitor, Robson De Oliveira, stepped in to help carry him across the line.

Beggs, a member of North Down Athletic Club in Northern Ireland, was hailed as a "superstar" by his club who "couldn't pass an athlete in distress." De Oliveira was on track to run his fastest-ever marathon before pausing his own race to help. The selfless act was filmed by spectators and has been viewed more than 2 million times on social media.

Speaking from his home in Bangor, Beggs said his actions were simply "natural instinct" and that helping others happens regularly in marathons. "It's nice to be nice," he said. Haridasse told the Boston Herald he was "getting ready to crawl" after falling four times and praised De Oliveira for sacrificing a probable personal best to help him complete the race.
