Felix Rosenqvist won the Indianapolis 500 in a historic finish, beating David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds, the closest margin in race history. The 34-year-old Swede delivered Meyer Shank Racing their second IndyCar victory in a race featuring 70 lead changes, a record for the famous event.

The chaotic conclusion saw Rosenqvist pass Pato O'Ward before Caio Collet's fiery crash prompted a red flag on lap 192. With four laps remaining, Marcus Armstrong and Malukas took first and second before Mick Schumacher's wall contact caused another yellow. The one-lap shootout ended with Rosenqvist edging Malukas at the line.

Competitors slowed on lap 18 to honor NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who died at 41. British driver Katherine Legge completed only 18 laps in her "Double Duty" attempt, seeking to become the sixth driver to race both the Indy500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. The 45-year-old spun with Ryan Hunter-Reay and placed last before flying to Charlotte.
