After shoulder surgery, Olympic gold medallist Rhys McClenaghan is back out of pain and ready to unveil a new routine in Glasgow. Dubbed “Rhys 2.0ect,” the Newtownards native plans to perfect it before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.\n\nHe said the Commonwealth Games offer a chance to showcase a work‑in‑progress routine, unlike the finished product expected at the Olympics. “It’s a work in progress, but I hope it’s the best in the world,” he told BBC Sport NI, noting rule changes push him toward a completely new routine.\n\nThe shoulder injury forced a year‑long break, giving him time for reflection. He aimed to win a fourth European title and a third consecutive World title in 2025, but the injury shifted focus to processing the legacy of his Olympic gold and the mental resilience it demanded.\n\nMcClenaghan became the first gymnast to complete a career Grand Slam, fueling his relentless drive.

He insists that stopping after the Olympics would waste his potential, so he remains healthy and determined to stay the best in the world, continually enhancing his legacy.
