Adam Ramsay-Peaty was left in tears after winning only bronze in the 100m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, beaten by Australia's Sam Williamson and Jersey's 18-year-old Filip Nowacki. The Englishman, a three-time Olympic gold medallist with eight world titles and the 14 fastest times in history, said: "It hurts too much. I have got to approach training differently now because it hurts too much."

After a 2023 mental health break, Ramsay-Peaty returned seeking another major title but was also pipped to gold in Paris two years ago. He questioned whether the 100m remains viable, suggesting the new 50m event for LA 2028 might suit his power better. "Is the 100 even viable any more? I don't know," he said.

The swimmer spoke of difficult choices — time away from his son, missed family events — and the frustration of knowing he's faster in training. "I just know I'm a better athlete than that," he said. Despite the emotion, he insists the drive for Los Angeles remains: "I know I'm a sprinter... It doesn't disappear overnight."
