Ireland's Kate O'Connor claimed bronze in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland, setting a national record with 4839 points. The 25-year-old from Newry built on her silver medal from last year's championships, finishing behind Netherlands' Sofie Dokter (gold with 4888) and USA's Anna Hall (silver with 4860).

O'Connor began strongly with fourth place in the 60m hurdles (8.23s), then cleared 1.81m in the high jump after two failures. Her personal best 14.70m in the shot put pushed her contention, leaving her at 2909 points after three events. A 6.38m long jump moved her into second place overall at 3878 points.

In the 800m, O'Connor recorded another personal best but couldn't hold off Hall's impressive 2:06.32, which propelled the American to silver. The Newry native's consistent performances across five events demonstrated her development as a multi-event specialist.
