Ireland has named a strong team for the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, featuring Kate O'Connor, the silver medallist from the 2018 Nanjing championships. The 25-year-old, who also secured a bronze in the heptathlon at the World Championships in Tokyo, is set to compete in both the pentathlon and heptathlon events. Her performance last year established a new benchmark for Irish athletes at these championships, as noted by Athletics Ireland's Paul McNamara, who stated the team travels with 'real intent' and 'real prospects for medal success'.

McNamara also highlighted the inclusion of emerging talent alongside seasoned performers like five-time European medallist Mark English, who will race in the 800m. Nick Griggs, the Irish senior champion, will compete in the 3,000m alongside Andrew Coscoran. Other athletes like Sarah Lavin (60m hurdles), Bori Akinola and Lauren Roy (60m), Maeve O'Neill (800m debut), Ciara Neville, Emma Moore, James Gormley, and Elizabeth Ndudi (pending qualification) complete the roster.
