Noah Lyles ran a world-leading 9.79 seconds to win the 100m at the US athletics championships, equalling his personal best set at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The 29-year-old American made his statement at Icahn Stadium in New York City, surpassing Jamaica's Oblique Seville's previous 2026 best of 9.82.

Lyles finished ahead of Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek, both clocking 9.88, while former world champion Christian Coleman placed fourth in 9.93. "Just because it is an off year doesn't mean that I plan to run slow," said Lyles, referencing the absence of Olympics or World Championships in 2026.

In the women's race, Sha'Carri Richardson won in 10.77, equalling her season's best. The 2023 world champion beat Kayla White (10.90) and Tamari Davis (11.00). "It just feels phenomenal to be back in a better place, just healthy mentally, physically and emotionally," said Richardson.
