Rory McIlroy says that having Bryson DeChambeau playing in the Irish Open in September "would be great for the tournament". McIlroy, who confirmed he will not play again before the PGA Tour play-offs in mid-August, added it was "fair to say" he is no longer as enthused by the prospect of playing on the PGA Tour and in the FedEx Cup after completing his career Grand Slam.

The 37-year-old said "it just sort of ebbs and flows", explaining he has other priorities. He noted the PGA Tour is "in a lot of flux" with schedule changes, questioning why he should care about early playoff events when only the top 30 matters for the Tour Championship.

The world number two reflected on a week at The Open where he was "stuck in neutral", shooting even par over the weekend. "Any time I got a little bit of momentum... I seemed to make a bogey. Just one of those weeks I couldn't get it going."
