Aronimink punishes field as 2026 PGA Championship stays razor tight

Aronimink held its ground on Friday at the 2026 PGA Championship, with diabolical pin placements on Donald Ross greens keeping the leaderboard packed. Maverick McNealy and Alex Smalley sit at 4-under through 36 holes, but 27 players sit within four shots of the lead, including seven former major champions. Scottie Scheffler called the pin placements the hardest he has ever seen, harder than Oakmont.

Scheffler labored through a 1-over 71 Friday, finishing 2-under overall. He needed 32 putts and lost nearly two strokes around the greens but stayed in the top 10. Big names fell away, though. Russell Henley, Tommy Fleetwood, and Bryson DeChambeau all missed the cut, with DeChambeau salvaging a 1-over 71 after three straight birdies saved him from a double-digit score.

Ludvig Aberg sits 2-under and is gaining more than four strokes on approach, hitting 77.8% of greens. With weather warming this weekend, big names like Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy have room to go low. Seven former major champions remain within four shots of the lead at Aronimink.
