The 2027 recruiting cycle is taking shape with Texas Tech landing the nation's No. 1 overall prospect, defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, who chose the Red Raiders over finalists including Ohio State and Texas A&M. Brewster, a 6-foot-3, 310-pound disruptor from Cedar Hill High School, became the first No. 1 overall prospect in the ESPN recruiting rankings era to commit to Texas Tech. His father, Robert Brewster, was a third-round NFL draft pick.

Meanwhile, Florida secured commitments from two five-star prospects, including offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, ESPN's top-ranked lineman in the 2027 cycle. Hiller, a 6-foot-5, 305-pounder from Pennsylvania, chose the Gators over Alabama, Ohio State, and Tennessee. His commitment marks Florida's highest-ranked offensive line pledge in over a decade. The Gators also landed Ashton Jeanty, giving them two five-star recruits early in the cycle.

Other notable commitments include running back Kemon Spell choosing Georgia over Penn State and Notre Dame, and edge rusher D.J. Jacobs selecting Ohio State over Miami and Georgia. With nearly half of the 21 five-star prospects already committed, the 2027 cycle is accelerating quickly, setting the stage for what could be one of the most competitive recruiting classes in recent memory.
