Riders Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco were rushed to hospital after high‑speed crashes at the Catalonia MotoGP. The race, halted twice by red flags, finally finished with Fabio di Giannantonio claiming victory for Ducati. Marquez, who collided with Pedro Acosta’s back, and Zarco, tangled in his own bike, suffered serious injuries during the 24‑lap contest.

Acosta, leading on lap 12, lost power on the straight and tried to warn back‑markers before the crash. Marquez, in second, had no chance to avoid the impact, sending his Ducati into a wall and cartwheeling through the air. Di Giannantonio, hit by debris, re‑started and edged past Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer for the win.

Zarco, after crashing out of the restart, was taken to hospital for tests on his left leg, having become entangled in his bike. Gresini Racing confirmed Marquez was conscious but not fit to restart. Di Giannantonio expressed relief that the race finished safely, noting the sport’s inherent danger while celebrating his win in the high‑profile event.

With Marquez sidelined and his brother Marc injured in France, the championship sees a shift in the battle for early points. Ducati’s victory keeps them in contention, while the incidents highlight safety concerns that could prompt regulatory review before the season’s next round as teams brace for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.
