Patrick Mahomes has agreed to a two-year extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that will make him the NFL's first player to surpass $500m in guaranteed earnings. The deal pushes his total guaranteed money to $504.75m and locks him up through the 2033 season.

This extension builds on his previous 10-year contract worth $450m plus $50m in incentives. From 2027 onward, Mahomes will average $64m annually, topping Dak Prescott's $60m per year mark set just last season. The financial commitment reflects the Chiefs' belief in their franchise quarterback despite recent setbacks.

Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last December, ending a season that saw Kansas City miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014. He has still delivered three Super Bowl victories in 2020, 2023, and 2024, falling short of a three-peat only against the Eagles in 2025. Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt praised Mahomes as a generational talent who elevated the franchise and put Kansas City on the world stage.

The massive extension signals that Kansas City views Mahomes as essential to maintaining their championship window, even as he recovers from a significant injury at age 30.
