Leinster's late rally secures home Champions Cup tie

Leinster clinched top spot in Pool Three with a hard-fought 22-13 win at Bayonne. The Irish province secured home advantage for the last-16 stage, despite another unconvincing performance. A late Sam Prendergast try broke a tense deadlock, with Max Deegan adding a final score for the four-time champions.

Bayonne, mid-table in the Top 14, dominated the first half. Sireli Maqala's try gave them a 10-3 lead. Leinster's Dan Sheehan drew them level, but a Joris Segonds penalty restored the French side's advantage. The visitors' discipline was tested, with a disallowed try and missed kicks keeping the game in the balance.

Leinster's late flourish now sends them into the knockout stages as higher seeds. They remain unbeaten since October. Bayonne, however, finish the group with zero points and a sixth defeat in seven games. The four-time winners will host the last-16 and could face a quarter-final at the RDS if they progress.
