Wales have added Leigh Halfpenny to their coaching team ahead of the Nations Championship, appointing the former full-back as interim kicking coach. Halfpenny links up with Matt Sherratt in attack, bolstering head coach Richie Tandy's growing staff after his summer appointment.

Halfpenny retired from playing in May after a career spanning over a decade, finishing with 801 points from 101 Tests - placing him third on Wales' all-time points list behind Neil Jenkins and Stephen Jones. His final appearance came in Cardiff's United Rugby Championship play-off-clinching victory over Stormers at the Arms Park.

Tandy's coaching team has expanded significantly since last summer, when he began with just Sherratt and Danny Wilson as permanent assistants. The additions of defence coach Peter Murchie, contact area specialist Dan Lydiate and scrum coach Paul James show investment in specialist expertise across all departments.

Wales begin their Nations Championship campaign against Fiji at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday (14:10 BST), followed by away fixtures in Argentina and South Africa. Halfpenny's presence should provide immediate value to the squad's kicking strategy and development of younger players.
