Katie Boulter will not repeat Andy Murray's wedding ring mistake as she prepares for the US Open. Murray famously lost his ring after tying it to his shoe laces during a practice session in California in 2021, later recovering it after an appeal. Boulter, who married Alex de Minaur this summer, confirmed she does not wear her ring during matches.

She described her wedding as having two ceremonies: a small, private event in England for close family, including her grandpa, followed by a larger celebration in Tuscany, Italy. Boulter admitted she was initially sceptical of de Minaur's wedding speech, which he planned to 'wing,' but was moved to tears by his performance. Since the wedding, Boulter has returned to competition, playing in Washington, Toronto, and Cincinnati before the US Open.

She believes US conditions differ significantly from the UK and felt underprepared without early exposure. Her US Open campaign begins against wildcard Carol Young Suh Lee. Four British players qualified for the main draw: Fran Jones, Harriet Dart, Harry Wendelken, and Toby Samuel, with Jacob Fearnley advancing as a lucky loser.

This marks the first time since the 1988 Australian Open that four British players reached a Grand Slam main draw via qualifying overseas. Wendelken earned his first overseas Grand Slam main draw appearance after defeating Vilius Gaubas.
